Brazil is for many reasons one of the most interesting countries for the German media market: It belongs to the BRICS-countries with an enormous economic growth. Due to hosting the soccer world championship in 2014 and the Olympic Games in 2016 the country will internationally gain even more attention. Furthermore Brazil is known for its television, a sometimes outstanding film-production and a dynamic media scene, especially in the audio-visual field. The general economic growth also relates to the media sector, for example with a raising number of moviegoers (especially of Brazilian films) and a steady increase of subscriptions for Pay-TV.

The Brazilian government is trying to stimulate the media sector with various measures – by strengthening the film funding and with a recently passed law that requires the Pay-TV-stations to outsource part of their programs to independent production companies. This is something very new and different in a TV market where so far the programs have been almost exclusively produced in-house. This piece of legislation will open the TV production market significantly for new participants.

On the first day the Brazilian media market presented itself in a workshop-event, showing the most interesting developments of their market for a German audience. Besides the traditional film- and TV-production there was also a presentation on new digital media. Furthermore there were presentations of media representatives who have already some experiences with Brazilian-German co-operations or are in the middle of such an international production.

The second day was dedicated to the personal exchange between German and Brazilian media representatives. In carefully matched encounters between film and TV-producers, film funders and others developments and strategies were evaluated and potential co-operations discussed.

There were be special invitations for these meetings.
